Donald Trump, facing escalating trade friction with New Delhi, has chosen 38-year-old confidant Sergio Gore to represent Washington as the next US ambassador to India.
Trump praised Gore as experienced in foreign policy and said he would also serve as a special envoy for South-Central Asia.
The move comes as Trump imposes a 50% tariff on India, straining bilateral ties.
Gore, known as one of Trump’s most loyal allies, is expected to play a crucial role in managing the relationship.
Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio defended the appointment, calling Gore an excellent choice for such an important post.
