Washington, D.C., USA: U.S. President Donald Trump has officially confirmed his intention to visit India, possibly in the coming year. Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office on November 6, Trump fondly recalled his memorable trip to Ahmedabad in 2020 during his first term as president.
Praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump referred to him as a “friend” and mentioned that the two leaders have been in frequent contact over the phone. “India has largely reduced its oil imports from Russia. He (Modi) is a friend of mine, and we’ve been speaking often. He wants me to visit, and we’ll make that happen. I had an incredible time there with the Prime Minister. He’s a remarkable leader, and I’ll be returning to India,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question.
When asked whether the trip could take place next year, Trump replied, “It could be,” indicating that plans are still being finalised.
Meanwhile, discussions over a pending India–U.S. trade agreement are ongoing. Negotiators from both sides are working under the guidance of Trump and Modi, who are seeking a mutually beneficial outcome for citizens of the world’s two largest democracies.
