Washington, D.C., USA: Indian Envoy Welcomes Trump’s Nominee Sergio Gor as Next U.S. Ambassador to India
The U.S. Senate will review several ambassadorial nominations this week, including that of Sergio Gor, chosen by former President Donald Trump to serve as the American envoy to New Delhi.
India’s Ambassador to Washington, Vinay Kwatra, on Wednesday expressed appreciation for Trump’s decision to put forward Gor, describing him as one of the former president’s most trusted advisers. Gor’s confirmation hearing has been set for September 11.
“I welcome President Trump’s decision to send Sergio Gor, one of his most trusted aides, as the next U.S. Ambassador to India,” Kwatra said. He added that the appointment underscores the importance of India-U.S. relations and reflects a commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and friendship.
Gor, a veteran Republican strategist and senior adviser, has long been a close ally of Trump, playing significant roles during his political career and post-presidency efforts. His nomination, currently before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is widely interpreted as a strong indication of Washington’s intent to enhance its strategic engagement with India.
Should the Senate confirm him, Gor will take over from Ambassador Eric Garcetti, who stepped down earlier this year. The role remains crucial as India and the United States continue to deepen collaboration in defense, trade, technology, and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Senate is expected to consider Gors’ nomination along with several other ambassadorial appointments in the coming days.
