The Trump administration has introduced a program offering $1,000 and travel aid to migrants who choose to self-deport, calling it a safer and more cost-effective alternative to forced removal. The program, announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), aims to reduce the $17,000 cost of arresting and deporting individuals without legal permission.

Since taking office, Trump’s administration has deported 152,000 people, fewer than the 195,000 deported during Biden's term. Trump has employed strategies such as penalties and deportation threats to motivate self-deportation, with some migrants possibly being permitted to re-enter in the future.
