Trump Travel Ban Triggers Stricter Airport Checks Worldwide

U.S. President Donald Trump has enforced a travel ban from Monday that restricts citizens from 12 countries — mostly from Africa and the Middle East — from entering America. Due to this, many passengers are facing difficulties at airports across the U.S., even those with valid visas.

At airports, U.S. officials are thoroughly examining passengers. For example, a woman named Vincente Aguilar and her husband arrived at Miami International Airport from Guatemala on Monday. They were subjected to three separate interviews by officials, causing them distress. The couple told the authorities they had been granted tourist visas just last week.

Officials asked them where they work, how many children they have, and how they would manage travel costs if any legal issues arise. They were also questioned about how long they plan to stay in the U.S. Aguilar said they hadn't been to the U.S. in 22 years and came now to visit their son who moved from Guatemala long ago. Even though Guatemala is not on the banned list, passengers from other countries too are being scrutinized more intensely, leading to uncomfortable experiences for many travelers.
