Trump Warns BRICS: 150% Tariffs if Dollar is Replaced

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been vocal about his opposition to BRICS nations for some time. He has repeatedly warned that if BRICS attempts to introduce an alternative currency to replace the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency, he would impose a 150% tariff. Recently, Trump once again took a jab at BRICS, stating that the mere mention of tariffs caused the alliance to fall apart.

Trump claimed that BRICS nations were trying to destroy the U.S. dollar by creating a new currency. He remarked that as soon as he announced the 150% tariffs, the member countries started distancing themselves from the proposal, and now there is no discussion about it. According to him, BRICS' efforts to introduce an alternative currency have collapsed due to his strong stance.

Trump has previously warned that any country attempting to replace the U.S. dollar in global trade would face severe tariffs. He emphasized that BRICS has no real possibility of replacing the dollar and that any nation attempting such a move would have to say goodbye to trade with the U.S. The BRICS alliance includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, and the UAE. Although BRICS does not have a common currency, discussions on alternatives gained momentum after sanctions were imposed on Russia following the Ukraine war.
