Trumps 50% Tariff Hits India As PM Modi Refuses To Compromise

The US has notified India of an additional 25% duty, raising tariffs on Indian goods to 50% from August 27, 2025. Shipments already in transit before that date may be exempt if cleared by September 17.

The move follows India’s continued purchase of Russian oil. PM Modi, addressing farmers and small businesses in Gujarat, said his government will “never compromise” on their interests despite global pressure.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India is reviewing the impact and will take steps to protect national interests.
