Cambridge: A federal judge in Boston has ordered the Trump administration to return over $2.5 billion in research funding to Harvard University, dismissing claims of campus antisemitism as “ideologically motivated.”
Judge Allison Burroughs said the cuts endangered decades of research and constitutional rights, calling the antisemitism argument a “smokescreen” for a political attack on universities.
Harvard welcomed the ruling, calling it a defense of academic freedom and scientific progress. President Alan Garber noted the university would continue monitoring legal developments.
The White House criticized the decision, with spokesperson Liz Huston accusing Harvard of failing to protect students from harassment and labeling the judge “an activist Obama appointee.”
