The US government is reportedly planning incentives to increase the country’s declining birth rate. One key proposal includes a $5,000 baby bonus (around ₹4.25 lakhs) for new mothers. Other suggestions include increasing child tax credits, and reserving 30% seats in programs like Fulbright Scholarships for married couples and parents. Additionally, awareness campaigns for women about childbirth are also being considered. Although not officially approved, the White House is said to be positive about these ideas.
US Vice President JD Vance and tech billionaire Elon Musk, both strong supporters of population growth, are backing these ideas. Vance, who has three children, has called the decline in birth rates a “civilizational crisis.” Musk, father to 14 children, has publicly encouraged population growth.
Since the 1990s, the US birth rate has been steadily dropping. Currently, it stands at just 1.62 births per woman. Experts cite rising living costs and increased female participation in the workforce as key reasons for the decline.
