The US State Department has directed its embassies worldwide to resume issuing visas to Harvard students following a temporary injunction against President Trump’s visa restrictions by a federal judge. This directive, dated June 6 and signed by Secretary Marco Rubio, follows a restraining order issued by US District Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston.
While the Trump administration justified the visa ban on national security concerns, Harvard argues it was singled out for opposing White House attempts to influence its governance and policies.
Additional visa requirements, including enhanced social media reviews, remain in effect. This legal confrontation is part of wider disputes, such as funding freezes and potential challenges to Harvard’s tax-exempt status.
