A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck northwest Venezuela on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey reported. The epicentre was 24 km east-northeast of Mene Grande in Zulia state, over 600 km west of Caracas, at a depth of 7.8 km.
The quake was felt in several Venezuelan states and neighboring Colombia, prompting evacuations, but no damage was reported. Mene Grande, on Lake Maracaibo’s eastern coast, is a key oil-producing area.
