Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA:  Nabarun Dasgupta and Teresa Puthussery Selected as 2025 MacArthur Fellows

The scientists of Indian descent are honoured for their pioneering contributions in public health and vision research.

Researchers of Indian origin, Nabarun Dasgupta and Teresa Puthussery, have been named among the 2025 MacArthur Fellows, an esteemed recognition in the United States that celebrates exceptional creativity and impact across a variety of fields. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced the new class of 22 fellows on October 8.

Dasgupta, who is an epidemiologist and harm reduction expert at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, received the honour for his efforts in merging scientific research with community engagement to prevent drug-related deaths and reduce associated harms. “Our goal is to use science in the service of people,” Dasgupta stated to the university. “We aim to ensure that everyone has access to the most accurate knowledge and tools, helping them make informed choices about what they consume.”
