Pennsylvania, USA: Pari V. Pandharipande, an accomplished Indian American physician-scientist, will assume the role of chair of the department of radiology at Penn Medicine starting June 1, 2025. She will succeed Mitchell Schnall, who now serves as Penn Medicine’s senior vice president for Data and Technology Solutions.
Since 2021, Pandharipande has been the chair of radiology at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine and chief of radiology services at Wexner Medical Center. Her leadership in driving advancements in imaging science and clinical integration has earned widespread recognition.
“Pandharipande’s extensive leadership experience makes her uniquely equipped to guide our ‘One Penn Medicine Radiology’ initiatives during this pivotal period in healthcare,” said Kevin B. Mahoney, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
At OSU, Pandharipande spearheaded efforts to enhance imaging infrastructure, expand service offerings, and boost translational research programs. Prior to her tenure at OSU, she spent 17 years at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where she led health outcomes research and oversaw system-wide imaging integration for Mass General Brigham Radiology.
Jonathan A. Epstein, interim executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, emphasized her multifaceted contributions. “Pandharipande has demonstrated exceptional leadership across research, clinical care, education, and community engagement, as well as within the field of radiology, which continually evolves with technology,” he noted.
Pandharipande is a graduate of Cornell University and completed her medical training and advanced fellowships at MGH. She also holds a master’s degree in public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
