Indian-Origin Nurse Stabbed in Neck at UK Hospital, Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder

Manchester, UK: Achamma Cherian, a 57-year-old nurse of Indian descent, was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors while working at Oldham Royal Hospital in Greater Manchester, UK. Mohammed Roman Haque, 37, has been charged with attempted murder and possessing a bladed weapon in connection with the assault. Cherian remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The shocking incident occurred late on Saturday night around 11:30 pm in the hospital's acute medical unit. Haque, who appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday in a grey sweatshirt, was named during the hearing. District Judge Jane Hamilton confirmed that the case would be transferred to Crown Court for further proceedings.

Cherian, a mother of two and a highly regarded nurse with a decade of experience at the hospital, was described as a “lovely lady” and a respected member of the Indian Association Oldham (IAO) by her colleagues. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed her ongoing treatment in the hospital.
