During a visit to Southport, England, on October 10, alongside Prince William to support a community affected by a tragic mass stabbing incident, Middleton opted for a different piece of jewelry—a slim eternity-style band—marking her first public engagement since completing chemotherapy. This choice has sparked speculation regarding her relationship with William.

Jewelry expert Ella Citron-Thompkins suggests that Middleton’s switch from the sapphire and diamond engagement ring to several eternity bands signifies meaningful milestones in her relationship with William, such as anniversaries or births. The choice could be a subtle way to reassure the public of their enduring love amidst earlier rumors of marital issues and a secret divorce. 

Royal fashion historian Victoria Campbell noted that the engagement ring has been less visible in 2024, while Lauren Kiehna of The Court Jeweller highlighted the new band’s design, which may feature gemstones linked to Middleton's children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. Citron-Thompkins also speculated that the engagement ring could be undergoing cleaning or resizing, suggesting that the eternity bands serve both practical and symbolic purposes, possibly even resembling the promise ring Prince William gifted her during their university days.
