Atlanta, Georgia, USA: Gwinnett County high school senior Anannya Aneesh has helped the USA Women’s Under-19 cricket team secure qualification for the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
A senior at Mountain View High School and a member of the USA Women’s U19 squad, Anannya was part of the team that won all six of its matches at the 2026 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier in the Cayman Islands in August.
The unbeaten campaign secured the United States a place in the 2027 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal. The qualification marks the USA’s third consecutive appearance in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
“It feels amazing to be part of the team that helped qualify USA to the U19 World Cup because it’s been my dream for so long,” Anannya said in a Gwinnett County Public Schools release. “I’ve always strived toward representing the country on the world stage and I’m glad that I could be part of the team while accomplishing such a huge feat.”
Anannya’s interest in cricket began at home, where she watched Indian Premier League matches with her father. She started playing cricket at the age of 11 and has since developed a demanding training routine, practicing three to four days a week while managing her academic responsibilities.
For Anannya, cricket has provided more than an opportunity to compete at an elite level. She said the sport has also helped her develop valuable relationships and life skills.
“The thing I most enjoy about it is that it helped me meet so many new people and make so many friends with whom I am still close with today,” she said. “I also love that it has taught me so many lessons such as teamwork and perseverance which I could not have learned anywhere else.”
Anannya is currently balancing her senior year at Mountain View High School with preparations for the biggest tournament of her young cricket career. She plans her homework and school projects around her training and competition schedule to manage both academics and cricket.
Her cricket ambitions extend beyond the 2027 World Cup. According to Gwinnett County Public Schools, Anannya plans to continue playing the sport after high school and intends to move to India after graduation to pursue cricket.
For now, she has two major goals ahead: completing her studies and graduating from Gwinnett County Public Schools, and representing the United States at the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
