New York, USA: Bank of New York (BNY) has elected Vikram Malhotra to its board of directors as an independent director, effective October 1, 2026, the global financial services company announced.
Malhotra’s appointment will expand BNY’s board to 12 directors, including 11 independent directors. He is expected to contribute strategic guidance and oversight as BNY continues to strengthen its global financial services platform, support clients across capital markets and pursue new growth opportunities.
Malhotra has been a senior partner at McKinsey & Company since 1998 and joined the consulting firm in 1986. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior leadership positions, including chairman of the Americas, a member of McKinsey’s shareholders council and leadership roles in the firm’s banking and life insurance practices.
He has also held prominent positions in academia and nonprofit organizations. Malhotra has served on the Wharton advisory board since 2021 and previously chaired the Wharton graduate executive board from 2015 to 2021. He is also a trustee emeritus of the Asia Society and serves on the board of Touch Health.
Malhotra is the co-author of two leadership books that became New York Times bestsellers.
BNY Chairman and CEO Robin Vince welcomed Malhotra to the board, highlighting his four decades of experience advising corporate leaders and boards on strategy, organizational priorities and growth.

Over the course of his four-decade career at McKinsey, Vik has advised CEOs and boards on some of their most consequential strategic, organizational and growth priorities, while also holding a number of significant leadership and governance roles within the firm,” Vince said in a statement.
Vince added that Malhotra’s experience across banking and financial services, along with his global perspective, would bring significant value to BNY’s board as the company continues to evolve its business.
Malhotra holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
