Nikki Sharma Makes History as First Indo-Canadian Deputy Premier of British Columbia

Ottawa, Canada: Nikki Sharma, of Indian origin, has been appointed as the Deputy Premier of British Columbia (BC), marking a historic moment as the first Indo-Canadian to hold this position. Born in Lethbridge, Canada, she grew up in Sparwood, BC. Her parents, who migrated from India, played key roles in her upbringing — her father, Paul, is a small business owner, while her mother, Rose, is a scientist.

Sharma completed her law degree at the University of Alberta before joining the law firm Donovan & Company. She also worked as a campaigner for the environmental organization 'Stand.earth.' In 2014, Sharma contested the Vancouver City municipal elections but faced defeat. However, she went on to assume several prominent roles over the years. As Attorney General, she was instrumental in introducing anti-racism legislation and championed online safety initiatives.

A resident of East Vancouver for the past 15 years, Sharma is a mother of two and is known for her dynamic and energetic personality, earning her the nickname "mercury."
