Detroit, Michigan, USA: Wayne State University has announced that Indian-origin neurologist Juber Shaikh has joined the School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology as an assistant professor.
In his new role, Shaikh will contribute to clinical care, teaching and research within the Department of Neurology.
Shaikh brings extensive experience in diagnosing and managing disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction and muscles. He also has specialized training in clinical neurophysiology.
He is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His research interests include neuromuscular medicine, autoimmune neurology, clinical neurophysiology, neuroimmunology, epilepsy and cerebrovascular disease.
Before joining Wayne State University, Shaikh completed his neurology residency at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit.
Shaikh began his medical education in India, earning his MBBS degree from Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai. He later completed his medical degree in general medicine at G.S.V.M. Medical College and Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in neurology from Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital.
After completing his neurology training in India, Shaikh served as an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Grant Government Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals in Mumbai.
He also worked as a consultant neurologist in Navi Mumbai for nearly five years, treating patients with a broad range of neurological disorders.
Shaikh is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American Neurological Association and American Medical Association.
