Kentucky, USA: The University of Louisville (UofL) School of Medicine has named Haribabu Bodduluri as the new chair of its Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This appointment follows his tenure as interim chair over the past year.
In his role as department chair, Bodduluri will oversee the department's administration, spearhead recruitment initiatives, secure external funding, and uphold LCME accreditation standards.
“Bodduluri has excelled as interim chair, showcasing outstanding leadership. We are delighted he has accepted this role on a permanent basis,” said Jeffrey Bumpous, Dean of the School of Medicine.
Bodduluri’s academic career includes a previous faculty position at Duke University, where his research centered on chemokines and leukocyte migration. At UofL, he has served as a professor of microbiology and immunology, co-director of the Center for Microbiomics, Inflammation, and Pathogenesis, and a researcher at the UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center. He also holds the distinguished James Graham Brown Foundation Chair in Cancer Immunobiology.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Bodduluri said, “The School of Medicine provides incredible opportunities for innovation. I am honored to lead the Department of Microbiology and Immunology as we continue advancing research and education.”
Bodduluri’s academic journey began in India, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology and a Master’s degree in biochemistry from Andhra University. He later obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science and completed postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University.
