IRGC Official Refutes Infiltration Claims in Haniyeh Death

Iran, Tehran: A high-ranking official from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force has denied allegations of infiltration related to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau. This denial counters recent Western media reports that suggested Iranian security forces may have been compromised in the incident.

At a parliamentary meeting, the deputy intelligence officer of the Quds Force asserted, "The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran was not the result of infiltration."

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, confirmed that a closed-door session was convened to examine various aspects of Haniyeh's assassination. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Quds Force, the Ministry of Intelligence, and the IRGC, though details of their discussions were not disclosed.

The IRGC's recent statement described Haniyeh's death as resulting from "a short-range projectile with a seven-kilogram warhead, accompanied by a powerful explosion, launched from outside the guest accommodation area."

This account contrasts with Western media reports, such as those from the New York Times and the Telegraph, which suggested that Haniyeh's residence was bombed. The Telegraph reported on August 2 that Israel's Mossad had worked with infiltrators within the IRGC to plant explosives at Haniyeh's residence. The New York Times also mentioned Iranian sources claiming that over 20 individuals, including senior intelligence officers and military officials, had been arrested in connection with the assassination.
