Maryam Mehrabi Receives Six-Year Prison Sentence and Additional Penalties

Iran, Isfahan: Maryam Mehrabi has been sentenced to six years in prison following a verdict from Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammadreza Tavakoli. The sentence includes one year for 'propaganda against the regime' and five years for 'inciting violence and undermining national security.' Additionally, Mehrabi faces a two-year dismissal from her job and a two-year travel ban.

Mehrabi has been denied legal representation. There is also an ongoing review by Criminal Court 2 of Isfahan regarding another charge of 'spreading false information.'

Mehrabi was detained by security forces in Isfahan on June 18th and subsequently went on a hunger strike in solitary confinement to protest her extended detention.

Previously, in March 2023, she was arrested while investigating her brother Mahmoud Mehrabi's case. Security forces detained her at the Mobarakeh County Prosecutor’s Office and transferred her to Dolatabad Prison in Isfahan, from which she was later released on bail. Last September, she was sentenced by Branch 102 of the Criminal Court Two of Mobarakeh City to seventy-four lashes and three months in prison, though the sentence was later converted to a fine.

Maryam Mehrabi is a teacher from Isfahan and the sister of political prisoner Mahmoud Mehrabi, who was sentenced to death in May by Branch 5 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court for 'spreading corruption on earth.' His appeal was submitted to the Supreme Court in June.
