Indian Americans Among IIT Madras 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award Winners

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced the recipients of its 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Awards, recognizing 10 exceptional alumni for their contributions across various sectors. Since its inception in 1996, the awards have honored 238 alumni, showcasing the institute’s global impact and legacy of excellence.

Among the awardees are several Indian Americans, including:

  • Jaishree Deshpande, co-founder of the Deshpande Foundation, which has advanced social and economic innovation through entrepreneurship. She holds a Master’s in Physics from IIT Madras and a master's degree in computer science from Boston University.
  • Ramesh Sitaraman, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, known for his work in distributed systems and for developing the Akamai network, the first major content delivery network. He earned a B.Tech. in electrical engineering from IIT Madras.
  • Vijay Narayanan, an IBM fellow and expert in AI hardware and materials science, recognized by the American Physical Society. He graduated from IIT Madras with a B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Sandhya Dwarkadas, Chair of the Computer Science Department at the University of Virginia, known for her research in computer hardware and software. She earned her B.Tech. from IIT Madras.
  • Ramesh Srinivasan, a senior partner at McKinsey & Company, specializing in leadership development. He holds a B.Tech. in mechanical engineering from IIT Madras.
