Chicago, USA: During his visit to Mumbai on January 9, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti described the US-India relationship as "the defining one," emphasizing its significance in promoting global peace and stability. Speaking at an event at the Taj Colaba alongside Rear Admiral Christopher Cavanaugh, Garcetti underlined the critical role of the US-India defense partnership in fostering peace across the Indo-Pacific region.
Reflecting on his time in India, Garcetti called it "the most extraordinary" experience and praised India's growing global influence. He reiterated President Joe Biden's statement that India is "the most important country in the world," acknowledging India's role in mediating international conflicts and securing key regions like the Indian Ocean.
Garcetti also discussed trade relations, advocating for more equitable practices and addressing the trade deficit and high tariffs. He expressed hope for future collaboration in sectors like semiconductors, telecommunications, and defense technology.
Regarding the relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President-elect Donald Trump, Garcetti highlighted their strong bond, focusing on the significance of their one-on-one meetings during upcoming events like the QUAD summit.
