India Culture Week Begins at Seattle University, Highlighting Indian Traditions and Arts

India Culture Week (ICW) commenced at Seattle University on November 12, 2024, offering students a unique opportunity to explore the vibrant and diverse culture of India. The event, organized by the Consulate General of India in Seattle in partnership with Seattle University, runs from November 12 to 14, providing an immersive experience through a variety of cultural activities.

The week’s festivities include a captivating photo exhibit that showcases the diversity of Indian states, traditional dance performances, an Indian Food Festival, a Yoga session, and a Madhubani art workshop. Additionally, a wellness and holistic well-being session, along with the inauguration of an "India Corner" featuring 100 books on Indian arts and culture, are part of the celebrations. These books, donated by the Indian Consulate, are now part of the Seattle University Library’s collection.

The opening ceremony was graced by Seattle University President Eduardo M. Penalver and the Consul General of India in Seattle. The event also included speeches by Tim Durkan, a Seattle-based photographer, and journalist Linda Lowry, both of whom recently traveled to India. A photo exhibit titled “India through Tim’s Eyes” displayed stunning images captured during their visit to India.

The opening event also featured a dance performance titled “NATYAM: A Dance Mosaic of Bharat,” which celebrated various Indian regional dance forms, followed by the Indian Food Festival offering an array of regional delicacies.

India Culture Week seeks to enhance students' understanding of contemporary India and its rich traditions, offering a blend of interactive sessions, workshops, and lectures led by artists and cultural experts.
