Yoga Day Celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial

The 10th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with grandeur at the largest Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in the US on Sunday.

The event was graced by Honorary Consul General of India, D.C. Manjunath, who highlighted that Hon'ble Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to observe June 21 as International Yoga Day worldwide has been embraced for the past decade.

Dr. Prasad Thotakura, Founder and President of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial of North Texas, welcomed the chief guest and noted the growing participation each year. Dr. Thotakura, along with the Board members, honored Manjunath with a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

The event commenced with a welcome by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Secretary Rao Kalwala. Sushma Malhotra, President of the India Association of North Texas and a member of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Board, acknowledged the increasing number of participants, highlighting the involvement of organizations like DFW Hindu Temple, Yogabharti, Heartfulness, Isha, and The Youth Excellence.

Board Members Rao Kalwala, John Hammond, Ranna Jani, Murali Vennam, Sushma Malhotra, Kamal Kaushal, Rajeev Kamath, B.Y.N. Rao, and India Association of North Texas Executive Committee members R. Mahender Rao, Dinesh Hooda, Urmeet Juneja, Deepak Kal Rao, Aman Singh, Amit Buche, and Samarnika Raut played vital roles in organizing the festival.

Participants of all ages enthusiastically joined the two-hour yoga session in the open field, concluding the event with refreshments prepared by Peacock India Restaurant.
