The government of India has brought new Aadhaar rules for NRIs and OCI card holders to get an Aadhaar card.UIDAI has introduced special forms for this. Non-Resident Indians (NRI), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can enroll in Aadhaar using these.

As an NRI, if you or your minor children want an Aadhaar, you can apply when you return home. A visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra is required to complete the registration and biometric verification process. Those who want to apply have to show passport proof. But as per the new rules. Birth Certificates are mandatory for applicants born after 1st October 2023.

Aadhaar Enrollment / Update Forms for NRIs

UIDAI has now introduced forms for overseas Indians. It includes separate forms for those with addresses in India, and those whose address is outside India, age-wise. Form 1 is for those above 18 years. Form 3 is for the registration of children between 5 to 18 years.

Form 2, and Form 4 are specially introduced for those having addresses outside India. Form 2 is for those above 18 years. Form 4 is for the registration of children between 5 to 18 years. For registration of children below five years of age, Form 5 (if the address is in India) and Form 6 (if the address is outside India) should be used.

Aadhaar Forms for Overseas Citizens of India Card Holders

Earlier foreign nationals in India were not eligible to get an Aadhaar card. After the government clarified that Aadhaar does not verify citizenship, OCIs were added to the categories of overseas Indians eligible for Aadhaar. They must stay in India for at least 182 days in a calendar year to apply for an Aadhaar card. Applicants above 18 years should use Form 7 for Aadhaar Enrolment. Those below 18 years of age should use Form 8. Those who have applied for an Aadhaar card should provide the correct email address. The application will be rejected if valid but the email is specified.UIDAI does not allow international numbers, so providing a non-Indian phone number will not receive SMS/text notification regarding your Aadhaar. All these should be noted by Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Overseas Citizens of Indians.
