Four Indian medical students have drowned in a river near St. Petersburg, Russia

Officials said that four Indian students died after drowning in a river near Saint Petersburg in Russia, one body has been recovered and the search is on for the remaining three.

A student who fell into the river was rescued and given medical treatment.

Jalgaon District Collector Ayush Prasad confirmed the deaths.

The Indian Embassy in Russia and the Consulate in St. Petersburg are working with local authorities to recover the bodies and bring them to India as soon as possible.

The Indian Embassy said in a statement that efforts are being made to send the bodies to the relatives as soon as possible.

He said that proper treatment is being given to the student who saved his life.

The consulate in St. Petersburg explained that the students studying medicine at Veliky Novgorod State University are cooperating with authorities in Veliky Novgorod.

The consulate said that they have contacted the affected families and promised to provide all possible help.

 He said that the surviving student is being given proper medical treatment along with psychological treatment.

The authorities are yet to reveal the cause of the drowning and the identity of the victims.
