Man Arrested for Attempting to Sell Stolen Five-Ton HVAC Unit on Facebook

A man from St. Stephen, South Carolina, identified as Michael Dennis Eagerton, 27, was recently apprehended by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for attempting to sell a stolen HVAC unit on Facebook. The 10,000-pound Daikin Heat Pump air conditioner had been reported stolen from the Berkeley County Senior Center on Russellville Road. The center, located about 50 miles north of Charleston, serves the elderly residents of Berkeley County.

Undercover detectives from the sheriff’s office engaged Eagerton, who had listed the stolen unit on Facebook Marketplace under the name “Michael Eagerton.” He agreed to meet with an undercover buyer on July 10, where deputies intervened and recovered the stolen unit. Edgerton was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. Court records indicate that Eagerton posted a $20,000 bond on July 11.

According to the sheriff’s office, Eagerton has a history of criminal activity, having been arrested multiple times since 2014 for offenses including shoplifting, drug possession, burglary, and others. He has previously pleaded guilty to various charges in Berkeley County court.
