North Korea Rejects Trump Claims of Friendship with Kim Jong Un

South Korea, Seoul: North Korean state media dismissed the potential impact of the upcoming U.S. presidential election on dialogue between the two countries, noting that past efforts have yielded minimal progress. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) criticized former President Donald Trump's tenure, arguing that despite his personal rapport with Kim Jong Un, there were no substantial improvements in U.S.-North Korean relations.

Trump's recent comments about his relationship with Kim, including claims of halting North Korean missile launches and receiving "beautiful letters," were described by KCNA as reflecting a "lingering desire" for improved ties that ultimately proved ineffective. The column emphasized that Trump's approach did not result in meaningful change, despite his claims of personal connections with Kim.

Currently, the U.S. under President Joe Biden has proposed unconditional meetings with North Korea, which Pyongyang has rejected, continuing to advance its nuclear and missile programs. KCNA condemned these offers as disingenuous attempts to undermine the North Korean regime and warned the U.S. to reconsider its strategy in dealing with North Korea.
