Russian Airstrikes on Kharkiv Injure Over 40, Including Children

Ukraine, Kharkiv:Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Sunday injured over 40 people, including five children, according to officials. Ukrainian regional leader Oleh Syniehubov condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of "treacherously" targeting areas frequently visited by hundreds of Kharkiv residents.

Syniehubov emphasized that the attacks were aimed at civilian infrastructure, calling the actions "real terrorism" on Telegram. The injured included five children, two medics, and two first responders, with at least two adults and two children reported to be in serious condition.

Specific sites targeted included the Kharkiv Palace of Sports and a shopping center in the Saltiv district, near the Hydropark in the Kyiv district, Syniehubov said. The Ukrainian government also reported the attacks on Telegram.

In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of once again terrorizing Kharkiv by striking civilian infrastructure. He reiterated his appeal to Western nations and allies to provide Ukraine with everything necessary for its defense.

Syniehubov reported ten separate Russian strikes, including the use of ballistic missiles, and noted that some people might be trapped under rubble as rescue operations continued. Despite the risk of further attacks, emergency services were actively working.

The airstrikes followed a series of overnight drone attacks by Ukraine targeting sites in Russia, where fires broke out at two energy facilities.
