Telugu Student Brihat Soma Wins 2024 America Spelling Bee competition

2024, This year too, the success of students of Indian origin continued in the prestigious national 'Spelling Bee' competition organized by the superpower America. Brihat Soma, a student of Indian origin, won the 96th Scripps National Spelling Bee this year after defeating seven finalists. In just 90 seconds, he said 29 words including abseil without any mistakes.

12-year-old Brihat Soma from Florida is currently studying seventh grade. His father Srinivas Soma hailed from Nalgonda. More than 240 people participated in this year's spelling bee competition. Seven of them reached the final on Thursday night. A tie was formed among them between Brihat Somaki and Python Jockey from Texas. With this, the organizers have allotted 90 seconds for another round of competition for both of them. Jackie said 20 words in this competition in 90 seconds, while Brihat said 29 words simultaneously and won the title.

In the competition held in 2022, Harini Logan of Indian origin spelled 22 words in 90 seconds and Brihat broke that record, organizers said. Moreover, Brihat had reached the 163rd position in the spelling bee in 2022 and settled for the 74th position in 2023. But this year Brihat showed his strength with the title. Jackie, the runner-up, received a prize of 25 thousand dollars. Shrey Parekh stood second in this competition and Ananya Rao got third place. America has been organizing this spelling bee competition since 1925. So far 29 students of Indian origin have become champions in these competitions.
