Abraham Lincoln Wax Sculpture Melts In Washington DC Heatwave

A six-foot-tall wax statue of Abraham Lincoln, part of Sandy Williams IV's Wax Monument Series highlighting Civil War history, melted in the recent Washington, D.C. heatwave.

Installed in February at the historic site of Camp Barker, the statue, which also functions as a candle, succumbed to the high temperatures.

This site once housed Civil War-era refugees and is now home to Garrison Elementary School.

The installation, meant to reflect on the era's significance, faced previous melting issues despite modifications to its design.

Scheduled repairs include reattaching the wax head amid ongoing heat alerts in the region.
