Indian American Lawmakers Honor Veterans on Veterans Day, Reaffirm Support for Their Sacrifices

Indian American lawmakers joined the nation in observing Veterans Day, honoring the courageous men and women who have devoted their lives to protecting U.S. freedoms.

In expressing their gratitude for the veterans’ service, the lawmakers underscored the significance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by these individuals and reaffirmed their dedication to supporting veterans and their families.

Rep. Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th Congressional District, highlighted the importance of Veterans Day as a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of those in the military. "On this Veterans Day, we must express our gratitude and honor the countless men and women who have served and sacrificed for the freedom of our country. Their service is the highest calling," Khanna shared on X.

Khanna further stressed the need to ensure veterans and their families have access to vital resources, stating, "Let us redouble our efforts to guarantee that our veterans and military families always have the support and resources they need to lead fulfilling lives and succeed in their communities."

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the U.S. representative for Washington’s 7th congressional district, joined Rep. Ro Khanna in emphasizing the importance of Veterans Day as a time to honor the sacrifices made by veterans. She took to X to express her gratitude, stating, “Veterans Day is a moment to express our deep appreciation for those who have given so much to protect our freedoms and values. To all those who have served and risked their lives—thank you.”

Rep. Shri Thanedar, representing Michigan’s 13th congressional district, expressed his appreciation for veterans, acknowledging their courage and commitment. "Wishing a Happy Veterans Day to the courageous men and women who have served our country and fought to safeguard our freedoms," Thanedar wrote. "We are deeply thankful for your service and will always be grateful.

Rep. Ami Bera, who represents California's 7th congressional district, expressed his gratitude to veterans both within his district and throughout the country. "Wishing a Happy Veterans Day! A heartfelt thank you to all the courageous men and women from Sacramento County and across the nation who have served," Bera stated. "We are truly thankful for your commitment and sacrifices.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, the U.S. representative for Illinois's 8th congressional district, took a moment to honor veterans for their dedication to the nation. On X, he expressed, "Today, we pay tribute to the courageous men and women who have served both at home and overseas. Thank you to all veterans for your bravery, dedication, and sacrifices."

Veterans Day, observed on November 11th each year, was initially called Armistice Day and was first recognized to mark the conclusion of World War I. Over time, the holiday expanded to honor all U.S. veterans. This day serves as a reminder of the unwavering commitment of America's military personnel and underscores, as emphasized by these lawmakers, the need for continued support for veterans long after their military service has concluded.
