Indian Talent Drives US Economy: Nasscom Dispels H-1B Myths

Washington, USA: Nasscom has emphasized the critical role of H-1B visas in addressing the United States' skill gap, countering claims that link these visas to immigration challenges. Highlighting Indian IT professionals' significant contributions, Nasscom stated that H-1B visas are essential for filling vital skill shortages and should be seen as a trade-related issue rather than an immigration concern.

Nasscom Vice President Shivendra Singh debunked misconceptions that H-1B workers are cheap labor or replace American employees, stressing that their wages often exceed the national average. He noted that Indian companies have invested $1.1 billion in US-based skill development, training over 255,000 employees and impacting 2.9 million students.

Despite concerns about recent US immigration policies under President Donald Trump, including threats of 100% tariffs on BRICS nations and changes to birthright citizenship, Singh expressed optimism about the Indian IT sector's future. He highlighted that Indian nationals receive 70% of the 85,000 H-1B visas issued annually, demonstrating the demand for their specialized skills.

Singh also welcomed the US's $500 billion AI infrastructure investment, viewing it as an opportunity for deeper collaboration between Indian and US firms. While the Indian IT sector is diversifying globally, Nasscom reaffirmed the importance of the US market and the H-1B program for mutual economic growth.
