India and Singapore Strengthen Military Collaboration: A New Chapter in Defence Relations Amidst Regional Strains

India and Singapore have strengthened their military cooperation during the 6th India-Singapore Defence Ministerial Dialogue, co-chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen. Both leaders emphasized their long-standing bilateral defense relations, focused on regional peace and security. They agreed to extend their joint military training agreement for five years and enhance industrial cooperation, particularly in areas like automation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

This dialogue aligns with the celebration of a decade of India's Act East policy, where Singapore has been pivotal in fostering economic, cultural, and strategic ties in the region. Next year, both countries will also commemorate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of India-ASEAN relations amid global conflicts and tensions. He presented a 10-point plan at the 21st ASEAN-India Summit to enhance cooperation in trade, tourism, cybersecurity, and health. Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting ASEAN’s unity and centrality in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in light of China's expanding influence.
