Malaysian Ex-Minister Dr. Mashitah Ibrahim Linked to Human Trafficking Probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police have confirmed that Dr. Mashitah Ibrahim, a former deputy minister in the prime minister’s department, traveled to Myanmar for real estate investment in Myawaddy. Despite this, the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is still investigating her for alleged involvement in human trafficking activities.

CID director Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that the investigation is ongoing and has included interviews with several individuals, including Dr. Mashitah. A blogger from Indonesia is scheduled to provide a statement online due to their location. The CID is also working to identify other individuals connected to the case.

The investigation follows reports from August 28 accusing Dr. Mashitah of masterminding an international human trafficking syndicate based in Myanmar. The Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) claimed she and her husband were senior security officials in a company linked to the trafficking network, which has been implicated in severe crimes such as forced labor, torture, organ trafficking, and murder.

Authorities advise caution for those receiving job offers from countries associated with scams, urging verification through official channels.
