PM Modi and Putin Emphasize Peaceful Solutions at BRICS Summit Amidst Russia-Ukraine Tensions

The informal summit of BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is currently taking place in Kazan, Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly regarding the Russia-Ukraine situation. The two leaders greeted each other with a warm embrace at the BRICS Summit.

The BRICS Summit is currently taking place in Kazan, Russia, where representatives from the member countries have convened.

PM Modi praised the progress of BRICS, noting that numerous other countries are interested in joining the coalition.

We have kept in touch with all stakeholders related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Our stance has consistently been that dialogue can resolve conflicts. We firmly believe in pursuing peaceful solutions, and India stands ready to assist in achieving peace," stated PM Modi.

At the conclusion of the summit, a 'Kazan Declaration' will be issued, officially welcoming five new members into BRICS.

This summit marks PM Modi's second visit to Russia in 2024. He previously traveled to Moscow in July for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, where he held a bilateral meeting with President Putin and received Russia's highest civilian honor, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, at the Kremlin.

India and Russia maintain a "special and privileged strategic partnership."

"Russian-Indian relations exemplify a particularly privileged strategic partnership and are continuously evolving," President Putin conveyed to PM Modi.
