Road Rage Incident Causes Extended I 65 Closure

Interstate 65 has reopened following a road rage shooting that severely disrupted traffic on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by Whitestown police.

Initially, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department attributed the closure to "police activity."

Whitestown police later clarified that the shutdown resulted from a road rage-induced shooting. While there is one confirmed victim, the severity of their injuries remains unknown.

Whitestown police cautioned that I-65 could face ongoing delays or closures "for the foreseeable future."

Drivers were advised to find alternative routes.

Further complicating travel on I-65 was a crash and subsequent vehicle fire near Frankfort, necessitating an emergency response.

The crash led to the closure of all southbound lanes for a significant period, while northbound traffic was also impacted, with one lane remaining closed.

According to INDOT, the incident occurred just south of the State Road 28 exit for Frankfort. Traffic camera footage revealed a significant smoke plume and extensive traffic congestion.

INDOT confirmed that northbound lanes have since reopened, and southbound traffic is no longer completely blocked.
