Chinese Athletes Shine on Day 2 of Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics 2024, China:  On the second day of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, Chinese athletes captured one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Several competitors also advanced to the finals in their respective events.

Xie Yu earned China's third gold medal in the men’s 10-meter air pistol final, overcoming a sixth-place position with a score of 240.9 points. He narrowly defeated Federico Nilo Maldini of Italy by just 0.9 points.

In women's archery, Yang Xiaolei, Li Jiaman, and An Qixuan secured a silver medal after losing to South Korea in the final. This marked South Korea's tenth consecutive win in the event since it was introduced in 1988.

Zhang Yufei contributed a bronze medal to China by finishing the women's 100-meter butterfly final in 56.21 seconds. The gold and silver medals went to American swimmers Torri Huske (55.59 seconds) and Gretchen Walsh (55.63 seconds), respectively.

The Chinese swimming team will have additional opportunities for gold on Monday. Tang Qianting advanced to the women's 100-meter breaststroke final, while Xu Jiayu qualified for the men's 100-meter backstroke final. His semifinal time of 52.02 seconds is 0.56 seconds faster than the world record holder, Thomas Ceccon of Italy.

Yang Junxuan also advanced to the women's 200-meter freestyle final, finishing fifth in the semifinals with a time of 1:55.9.

In women's skateboarding street, 14 year old Cui Chenxi achieved the best result for China by finishing fourth with 241.56 points.

China continued to perform well across other sports. Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin advanced to the table tennis mixed doubles semifinals after defeating Lin Yun Ju and Chen Szu Yu from Chinese Taipei. Both players also started their singles competitions with victories.

All four Chinese players in the women's singles tennis event Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xiyu, Wang Xinyu, and Yuan Yue progressed past the first round, with Zheng Qinwen achieving a decisive 6 0, 6 0 win against Italy's Sara Errani.
