Indian origin Singaporean Daljeet Kaur Dharam Chand (35) was sentenced to 19 months in jail for setting fire to her rental flat and injuring her boyfriend. The couple, who live together in a rented flat, are believed to have separated after the incident.

Daljeet s boyfriend Premraj Raghu suffered 15 per cent burns on his body, including his back and left buttock. The burns resulted in permanent scarring. The Straits Times said Raghu could not afford surgery for his burns, so he returned to Malaysia to recuperate. In March, after a trial, Daljeet Kaur Dharam Chand was convicted in a case of causing an accident that caused a fire in her Sembawang rental flat.

According to court documents, their relationship was strained. Deputy Public Prosecutor Jonathan Tan portrayed Kaur as a possessive and manipulative partner. Provided full financial assistance to the victim and normalized her illness control and monitoring over time. She threatened to commit suicide if there were any disputes, said Tan.
