An Indian couple arrested on drug-trafficking charges were sentenced to 33 years each in Britain on Tuesday.

An Indian couple arrested on charges of drug trafficking were sentenced to 33 years each in Britain on Tuesday. Husband and wife Aarti Dhir (59) and Kawaljit Singh Rai Jada (39) adopted a boy in Gujarat, India, and took out a life insurance policy of Rs 1.3 crore in his name. They are accused of killing the boy and his brother-in-law for the insurance money. Although India requested to hand over Aarti and Raizada to them in this murder case, Britain rejected the request in February 2020 in the name of protection of human rights. The couple is also alleged to have smuggled 514 kg of cocaine worth Rs 602 crore from Britain to Australia. Recently this crime was proven in court and sentenced to imprisonment. The duo started their own company in 2015 after working for a long-term airline at Heathrow Airport. Police arrested the couple at their home in Hanwell on June 21, 2021. A huge amount of money was seized from that house.
