Israel and Hamas Urged to Finalize Ceasefire Talks by August 15

Israel, Gaza: In a joint statement on Thursday, three countries called on Israel and Hamas to 'resume urgent discussions' on August 15 in either Doha or Cairo, with the aim of 'closing all remaining gaps and implementing the deal without further delay.'

'It is time to finalize a ceasefire agreement and facilitate the release of hostages and prisoners,' the statement read, as reported by Al Jazeera.

'We have been working for months to establish a framework agreement, which is now ready, with only the implementation details remaining.'

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office swiftly issued a statement, confirming that Israel would send a delegation next week 'to finalize the details and implement the framework agreement.'

The joint statement comes after months of unsuccessful attempts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israel's military operations have resulted in the deaths of at least 39,699 Palestinians and left 91,722 others injured since early October.

Washington, despite being the primary supporter of Israel in its military campaign in Gaza, has periodically called for a ceasefire, even as it continues to supply Tel Aviv with weapons.
