PIA Flight Attendant Arrested for Smuggling Saudi Riyals: Details

Dubai: A female flight attendant from Pakistan International Airlines has been placed on judicial remand after being caught attempting to smuggle foreign currency at an international airport in Punjab.

Customs officials presented the suspect before a magistrate on Saturday, seeking her custody following her arrest on Friday. She was apprehended after a significant amount of Saudi riyals was discovered hidden in her socks during a body search, as reported by Dawn News.

A video showing the cabin crew member extracting the currency has circulated widely on social media.

An FIR was filed against the flight attendant following a complaint from Customs officials, who intercepted her while she was boarding PIA flight PK 203 from Lahore to Dubai.

Raja Bilal Naseem, the Customs Deputy Collector at Allama Iqbal International Airport, reported that 140,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately 10.4 million Pakistani rupees) were seized from her during the search.

He noted that customs authorities had received intelligence about a potential currency smuggling attempt on this flight.

The suspect faces charges under Section 139 of The Customs Act, 1969, which criminalizes the concealment of currency, gold, precious metals, or stones in baggage to evade customs checks.

A PIA spokesperson stated that the flight attendant would face immediate dismissal if convicted.
