Did India Bishnoi Gang Target Sikh Separatists Abroad? Canada Claims Explained

India's notorious Bishnoi crime gang, led by jailed law graduate Lawrence Bishnoi, is now implicated in an international controversy following accusations of involvement in the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Bishnoi, imprisoned for nearly a decade in Gujarat, India, is also suspected in high-profile murders, including the 2022 killing of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala and the recent assassination of politician Baba Siddique in Mumbai.

Canadian authorities, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), allege that the Bishnoi gang was used by India to target Sikh separatists abroad. Najjar, a proponent of the Khalistan movement for an independent Sikh state, was killed in Vancouver in June 2023. This has sparked a diplomatic row between Canada and India, with both countries expelling diplomats amid escalating tensions.

Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, known for its involvement in organized crime, assassinations, and extortion, first gained attention in 2022 with Moose Wala's murder and has issued threats against Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Despite being in prison, Bishnoi is believed to continue orchestrating criminal activities from behind bars.
