A woman has filed a complaint against an NRI, Sukhjeet Singh, accusing him of sharing her obscene photos on social media. The Ludhiana police registered a case on Friday and have begun an investigation into the matter.
The complainant, who has been estranged from her husband since 2017 due to a domestic conflict, mentioned that she became acquainted with Sukhjeet through Facebook. Their relationship developed over time, and they even discussed marriage. Sukhjeet, originally from Jalandhar, assured her that he would marry her if she divorced her husband.
In 2019, Sukhjeet visited India and stayed with the woman for two months in a rented house in Akalgarh village, where they lived as a couple. The woman added that he continued to visit her between 2021 and 2023 after returning to Italy.
The relationship reportedly deteriorated due to disputes, with Sukhjeet allegedly demanding repayment of money he had sent her. According to the woman, when she suggested resolving the matter in person, Sukhjeet retaliated by sharing her obscene photos and videos on Instagram and WhatsApp, causing her humiliation among her family and society.
The woman further alleged that she later discovered Sukhjeet was married after receiving abusive calls from his wife and sister. She claimed he had lied about being single to pursue a relationship with her.
Sudhar Police Station Inspector Heera Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act. The police are now working on arresting the accused.
