Why Is Canadas Treatment of Khalistani Elements Under Scrutiny Following Trudeaus Claims?

Vikash Yadav, identified as CC-1 in a 2023 indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice, is part of a broader controversy following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations against Indian diplomats regarding the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau's allegations highlight Canada's history of perceived inaction against anti-India elements, despite India's numerous extradition requests related to individuals involved in terrorist activities, including those associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang operating in Canada.

India's Ministry of External Affairs criticized the Canadian government's failure to address these concerns, pointing out the disparity between Trudeau's support for the "One India" policy and the lack of concrete action against separatists promoting violence against India. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that 26 extradition requests have remained unresolved over the past two decades.

Additionally, a Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) official, Sandeep Singh Sidhu, has been implicated in terrorist activities and is associated with the banned International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF). Reports indicate he had connections with Khalistani operatives and was recently promoted despite his criminal background. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also revealed that operatives from Canada and the U.S. were involved in masterminding the murder of Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a notable figure who opposed Khalistani movements and was previously attacked multiple times.

Balwinder Singh was assassinated in October 2020, and his family has a documented history of resisting Khalistani terrorists, surviving numerous assassination attempts, including a significant attack in 1990 involving 200 armed assailants.
