Indian-American Ashok Kondur Joins Central Michigan University Board of Trustees

Michigan, USA: Ashok Kondur and Jeff Stoutenburg have been appointed to serve as trustees for Central Michigan University (CMU), with their eight-year terms set to commence in January 2025.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has selected Indian-American interventional cardiologist Dr. Ashok Kondur to the CMU Board of Trustees, succeeding outgoing member Isaiah Oliver.

Based in West Bloomfield, Dr. Kondur is the director of mechanical circulatory support and advanced coronary interventions at Henry Ford Health. He also chairs the cardiology division at Garden City Hospital. A highly qualified professional, Kondur holds board certifications in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular medicine, vascular medicine, echocardiography, and advanced imaging techniques such as SPECT and PET.

Recognized as a leading authority in peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and limb preservation, Kondur plays a key role at Dearborn Cardiology and the Michigan Outpatient Vascular Institute, where he spearheads a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to treating patients. Additionally, he serves as program director for the Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at Garden City Hospital.

Dr. Kondur has contributed extensively to medical research, publishing numerous studies and delivering lectures across the U.S. on critical limb ischemia and strategies to prevent amputations. His professional accolades include "Best Teaching Resident" and "Outstanding Intern of the Year" from Wayne State University.

With his profound expertise and dedication to advancing healthcare, Kondur is anticipated to provide significant value to CMU’s board as it navigates future educational and institutional objectives.

Jeff Stoutenburg, who takes over from departing trustee Michael Sandler, will join Kondur on the board. Both appointees will serve terms beginning January 1, 2025, and ending December 31, 2032.

“We are excited to introduce Trustee Kondur to the CMU community and to welcome Trustee Stoutenburg back to campus,” said CMU President Neil MacKinnon. “Their knowledge and skills will greatly enhance our Board and contribute to our university’s growth.”

The CMU Board of Trustees consists of eight members, all appointed by Michigan’s governor in accordance with the state constitution.
