Wisconsin,USA: Usha Chilukuri Vance, a Yale Law graduate and former clerk for the Supreme Court, first met her husband, JD Vance, during her time at Yale. The couple now shares three children.

With Donald Trump returning to the White House, joined by his running mate JD Vance, Usha has made history by becoming the first Indian-American to serve as the Second Lady of the United States.

Usha, who was born in San Diego, California, is the daughter of Indian immigrants who moved to the U.S. in 1986. Excelling academically, she went on to graduate from Yale Law School, where she met J.D. They married in 2014 and have since welcomed three children.

Her family has roots in Vadluru, a village in Andhra Pradesh, India, where celebrations broke out following the 2024 election victory. Relatives and villagers marked the occasion with prayers and festivities, honoring Usha’s achievements. Her family has also supported various community projects in Vadluru, strengthening ties with her heritage.

At a recent rally, Donald Trump highlighted the significance of Usha’s role, noting her status as the first non-white Second Lady in U.S. history. Usha’s presence in the White House reflects the rising influence of the Indian-American community, now 4.8 million strong according to the latest census.
