Sacramento, California, USA: The Federal Bureau of Investigation has filed serious allegations against Eileen Wang, the mayor of Arcadia, accusing her of acting as an illegal agent for the Chinese government.

According to investigators, 58-year-old Eileen Wang was elected mayor in 2022. Before and after the election, she allegedly operated in support of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) through a Chinese-American news platform known as the U.S. News Center.

The FBI claimed that between 2020 and 2022, the website published content and propaganda favorable to the Chinese government and worked to promote Beijing’s interests in the United States. Officials further alleged that Wang acted based on instructions received from Chinese authorities.

During court proceedings held on Monday, Wang reportedly admitted that she had operated the news website under the direction of Chinese government officials. Following the allegations and legal proceedings, she resigned from her position as mayor.

Authorities stated that if convicted, Wang could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
